Hello again, Sorry it has taken me so long to sum the responses to my question. I have received a couple of responses. Thanks to everyone who responded. The responses are summed below; There were two common responses. The first is to link the tables together. This would keep the data in their separate tables but when you select a parcel from the parcel attribute table the landcover types are highlighted in the landcover attribute table. While this works, it did not hlep me with my problem. The second response was to use the union command under the geoprocessing wizzard or in xtools. This did what I was lookin for but in the wrong format. For example, after unioning the two shapefiles this is what occurs parcel landcover a x a y a z What I would like ot do is put it in the following format parcel landcover1 landcover2 landcover 3 a x y z To do this I went into excel and put the data in the correct format. While this worked fine, I would hate to do this for a large data set. Mine was relatively small and was not very time consuming. I am sure there is a way to get the data in the correct format without any formatting, but I just don't know the answer. Hope this helps. If anyone comes across an easier way I would love to know the answer. Thanks again to all who responded. ________________________________ Original Question: Hi, I have a geoprocessing question that really has me stumped. I'd like to perform a spatial join using two polygon themes. One is land parcels and the other is landcover data. The land parcel is the theme to assign data to (destination) and the landcover is the theme to assign data from (source). Data is assigned according to what is inside the land parcel polygon. The problem is that sometimes two or more landcover types occur within one land parcel polygon. The spatial join then assigns a blank value to the destination theme. What I would like to have happen is the following: The spatial join assigns the landcover type in multiple fields such as landcover_1, landcover_2, etc... Does anybody have an idea of how to do this? Thanks for everyones help, and I will sum the responses.
